Thought I’d better stop faffing around on here and actually write my first post. So, here
Hiya dreamboats! I’m Lizzie and welcome to my new lifestyle blog, Laughter and Lemons.
For me, one of the best ways to feel levelled out and mildly sane is to put pen to paper and get my thoughts down. It helps me de-clutter and un-jumble them (because your mind needs just as much Marie Kondo-ing as your knicker drawer, you know).
So this new venture is my cathartic way of using my love for words, people and conversation to discuss all things important to the lifelong quest of feeling all sorts of A+ good.
It’s a creation born out of the desire to change the way I think and feel about myself and situations as I begin to navigate my thirties and to – hopefully – help you do the same. I’ve spent far too long obsessing over my waistline and focusing on ‘my inadequacies’. And to be perfectly honest, I’m over it.
As we are all aware, the internet can be a blessing and a curse, and I hope this little space slots firmly into the first category for you.
I won’t tell you to conform or to compare; in fact, I’ll do the opposite. I believe everyone has their own happy, whether that’s makeup-less, laying on the sofa glued to the latest crime doc on Netflix or hacking through the jungle of deepest darkest Peru; it’s all about working out what brings you joy and doing more of it.
I’m all about the you-do-you life. Worrying about what someone else is doing is about as useful as a 0% alcohol bottle of vino. Sorry, chocolate teapot.
Here = Happiness > everything else.
This is a place for millennials who are trying to accept ourselves in a society that tells us not to; trying to avoid the pressure of being where we feel we should be by now; for finding inspiration in those dark places when we are at a loss (which will probably be through my love language of inspirational memes) and to remind ourselves we are delicate (and beautiful and blooming and *insert all manner of compliments here*) and we fricking matter.
To me, happiness is being healthy, learning self-acceptance, and being content with those you choose to surround yourself with. (And good food. Delicious food – paired with
So my aim is to use this space meaningfully and to talk about those things that matter, without telling you how to get bikini body ready in four hours, or to sprinkle chia seeds on everything to be saved from a life of sin (carbs).
What are we gunna talk about?
I’m going to share feel-good content that’s made an impression and brought me joy, be that people, places, things or ideas.
As a self-confessed girl’s girl, I have a ton of the most wonderful ladies I want to shout out on here, both celebrity and not, who I feel are doing a bloody good job filling this world with positive vibes and magical energy.
And I can’t wait to share their wisdom and
I’m also a sucker for the mainstream movement of body positivity and celebrating the uniqueness in every person’s beauty. I’ve fully joined the party (any excuse, I bloody love a party) so there will be a heavy dusting of that, too.
But it’s not just about looks here, friends. Oh no.
Because as we all know, beauty in all its forms, is only skin deep. This is a place for self-acceptance on all levels, not just the outside.
And a place for fun. Because what is life without lols?
Whether you are career driven and working late is your day-to-day, a family-focused home-girl, or just working out who you are, everyone is welcome here.
Just promise me you won’t give yourself a hard time for being you, whoever you are. Cos you really are great.
From my mind to yours, I hope you enjoy.
